Tales of Practice Development by J&R Staff Accountants

At Jones & Roth, everyone from new staff accountants to senior partners are involved in practice development.  We believe it's important to start building relationships with clients and referral sources from the beginning of your career.  Staff and senior accountants aren't expected to bring in new work, but are expected to get involved in the community and start building relationships with peers in banking, law, and local organizations.  Below are a few examples of how the J&R staff and senior accountants are involved in practice development.

Volunteering for Junior Achievement has made a tremendous impact on my life. I meet great kids and practice my public speaking skills at the same time. While participating in Junior Achievement, I have seen a noticeable change in my comfort level while speaking at various events. Plus, it is a lot of fun!!

I attended a 20/30 lunch a couple weeks ago and it was a completely different experience compared to other networking groups. They dumped towels into a bucket full of water and after the meeting was over they threw the wet towels at their president. Everyone was friend and seemed to have a vested interest in their club.

I volunteer with the Oregon Track Club (OTC).  Being able to help out in an area that I have a great interest in outside of work makes the experience that much more rewarding and fun.  Recently I volunteered at the Eugene Marathon Expo where I was able to meet many people from around the community, state, and country while telling them about OTC and what they do for the local area.

One of my favorite practice development events was the St. Vincent de Paul Dinner Theatre.  In addition to several live performances, there was a silent auction with an impressive variety of baskets to bid on as well as an entertaining live auction.  It was a fun opportunity to attend an event with fellow J&R team members, meet new people in the community, and show our support for a great organization.
