No Internship? What else can you do to prepare for your Career?

Internships are a great way to learn about public accounting and get your foot in the door.  But don't worry if you didn't get offered an internship.  You're not alone.  During spring recruiting, we had over 75 candidates.  We interviewed 32 of them on campus and 18 at our office.  We only had six internship positions to fill.

If you are someone that didn't get hired for an internship, there are still a lot of things you can do to prepare for a career in public accounting.

At Jones & Roth, we are looking for candidates with life experiences in addition to academics. A job at a supermarket, a summer on the farm, or volunteering at a local nonprofit can all provide opportunities for learning and personal growth.

Did you learn how to work with a variety of personalities, manage multiple bosses, work long hours, or deal with unhappy customers?  Those skills that will serve you well in your career as a CPA.

Take full advantage of the opportunities you have. Pay attention to what you can learn.  Do your best. Ask for challenges. Seek out feedback.  Learn from your mistakes.

Then, come back for fall recruiting and tell us about it.
